Tom Wilson's late goal during a power play secured a 5-4 win for the Capitals against the Lightning. Even though Brayden Point achieved a hat trick for Tampa Bay, it was John Carlson who equalized the score late in the third period. Capitals coach, Jon Cooper, celebrated his 900th regular-season game, making him the eighth coach in league history to reach this milestone with a single franchise.
