Brady Tkachuk scored a power-play goal with 1:45 remaining in regulation to lift the Ottawa Senators to a 3-2 victory over the Winnipeg Jets at Canada Life Centre on Saturday. Tkachuk finished with a goal and an assist as Ottawa secured the win late in the third period.
Following a scoreless opening period, Nikolaj Ehlers put the Jets ahead 1-0 at 1:58 of the second period with an even-strength wrist shot set up by Sean Monahan and Dylan DeMelo. Ottawa answered less than two minutes later when Boris Katchouk snapped in his seventh goal of the season off assists from Erik Brannstrom and Mark Kastelic to tie the game. Ridly Greig then gave the Senators a 2-1 lead at 13:25 of the second period, beating Connor Hellebuyck with a backhand shot after passes from Tkachuk and Drake Batherson.
Winnipeg pulled even midway through the third period on the power play. Mark Scheifele scored his 23rd goal of the season on a wrist shot at 9:48, assisted by Kyle Connor and Josh Morrissey. With the game tied 2-2 late in regulation, Ottawa capitalized on an advantage of its own. Tkachuk hammered a slap shot past Hellebuyck at 18:15 with assists from Tim Stützle and Jake Sanderson to deliver the win.
Joonas Korpisalo made 28 saves on 30 shots to earn the victory in net for Ottawa. Hellebuyck stopped 24 of the 27 shots he faced for Winnipeg. Both clubs finished 1-for-5 on the power play and recorded 10 penalty minutes apiece, while the Senators blocked 20 shots compared to 11 for the Jets.
The victory extended the Senators winning streak to five straight games, improving their regular-season record to 33-36-4. For Winnipeg, the loss dropped its record to 44-24-6 and extended its winless stretch to six straight games (0-5-1). The two teams split their season series, with each club winning one game.
