Tampa Bay Lightning News & Updates

Brandon Hagel equaled an NHL record by providing four assists in the opening period and ended with a total of five assists as the Tampa Bay Lightning overpowered the Colorado Avalanche with a final score of 8-2 on Monday.

Jake Guentzel found the net twice for Tampa Bay, while Mikey Eyssimont, Nikita Kucherov, Brayden Point, Nick Perbix, Anthony Cirelli, and Luke Glendening each added a goal. Hagel established a new franchise record with his five assists.

Andrei Vasilevskiy stopped 23 shots for the Lightning. Scoring both goals for the Avalanche was Ivan Ivan, which snapped their three-game win streak. Justus Annunen and Alexandar Georgiev together allowed eight goals from 33 shots.

Colorado concluded their four-game road trip with a 3-1 record. They had been victorious in six of their previous seven matches, with Ivan achieving his first career game featuring multiple goals.

For Tampa Bay, Cirelli's goal sustained his run of scoring in six consecutive games, making him the sixth player in the franchise's history to achieve this feat. Zemgus Girgensons reached a milestone by recording his 100th career assist.

The pivotal moment occurred when Tampa Bay built a 2-0 lead due to Guentzel's power-play goal. Although Colorado briefly tightened the score, Kucherov swiftly widened the lead back to two goals, prompting Annunen to be replaced.

Tampa Bay scored five goals in the first period, signifying the fourth instance in franchise history they've managed this feat in the opening period, last accomplished in 2011 against the Phoenix Coyotes.

The Avalanche are set to host Vegas on Wednesday, while the Lightning will compete against Washington to complete their three-game homestand.
