Conor Garland was instrumental in guiding the Vancouver Canucks to a 4-3 overtime win over the Buffalo Sabres, scoring two goals, including the decisive one 3:59 into overtime. He also provided an assist, with Quinn Hughes and Brock Boeser each adding two assists of their own.
In the third period, Pius Suter and Jake DeBrusk found the net for the Canucks, and Kevin Lankinen contributed by making 31 saves. On the other side, Dylan Cozens and Alex Tuch fueled a late comeback for the Sabres with their goals, but ultimately, Garland clinched the victory with a power-play goal assisted by Boeser.
Vancouver played without Filip Hronek, who was sidelined due to an upper-body injury. With their victory, the Canucks extended their winning streak to three games on their six-game road trip, boosting their away record to 9-2-0.
The Sabres, after losing their second straight home game, managed to gain a point for the eighth time in 11 outings. They are set to face the New York Islanders in their next game, while the Canucks will continue their road trip in Detroit.
A pivotal moment was Garland's backhanded overtime goal, achieved while kneeling at the crease after he recovered a rebound from Hughes' shot.
Garland's goal streak has now reached seven games, tying the longest active streak in the NHL. Throughout this period, he has accumulated five goals and six assists.
