Alex Laferriere's decisive goal and Erik Portillo's 28 saves in his NHL debut contributed to the Los Angeles Kings' 2-1 win against the Anaheim Ducks in the 165th Freeway Faceoff rivalry matchup.
Los Angeles received goals from Laferriere and Alex Turcotte, while Anaheim's lone goal came from Ryan Strome. John Gibson stopped 16 shots for the Ducks.
Portillo, acting as the backup for David Rittich and acquired in a trade last year, had to leave the game with nine minutes and 30 seconds left due to an issue with his skate blade. Rittich took over for a period of 83 seconds.
The Ducks, known for being the NHL's lowest-scoring team over the past six seasons, had difficulties on offense and failed to capitalize on three power plays.
The Kings have shown resilience following a recent defeat, whereas the Ducks continue to experience offensive struggles.
Looking ahead, the Kings will host Ottawa on Saturday, with the Ducks taking on the Senators on Sunday.
