Tye Kartye scored twice, including the go-ahead goal late in the second period, to help the New York Rangers defeat the Vancouver Canucks 6-2 at Madison Square Garden on Sunday. Will Cuylle also produced a two-goal performance as New York scored four unanswered goals over the final period and a half to secure the win.

Kartye put the Rangers ahead just 27 seconds into the contest with a snap shot. Vancouver answered later in the opening period when Jake DeBrusk converted a snap shot at 17:04 to level the score at 1-1. Cuylle restored New York's advantage at 2:09 of the second period with a wrist shot for his first goal of the season.

The Canucks pulled even again late in the second when Elias Pettersson beat Dylan Garand with a wrist shot at 16:56 for a shorthanded goal. Only 89 seconds later, Kartye answered for the Rangers by scoring his second goal of the evening on a wrist shot at 18:25 to make it 3-2.

New York pulled away with three goals in the third period. Alexis Lafrenière scored on a wrist shot during a power play at 1:04, followed by Gabe Perreault deflecting a shot into the net at 5:57 to push the margin to three. Cuylle capped the scoring at 15:22 with a snap shot for his second goal of the game.

Garand stopped 19 of 21 shots to earn the victory for New York, while Kevin Lankinen made 19 saves on 25 shots for Vancouver. The Rangers capitalized on one of two power-play opportunities and controlled the faceoff circle, winning 31 of 50 draws (62 percent). Vancouver went 0 for 1 with the man advantage but scored once shorthanded.

The result moved the Rangers to 5-2-0 on the season and gave them the win in the first meeting between the teams this year. The Canucks fell to 2-5-0 and are winless in four straight games.

Both teams continue their schedules with upcoming home matchups. The Rangers host the Anaheim Ducks on Monday, October 19, while the Canucks return home to host the Carolina Hurricanes on Tuesday, October 20.
