The Edmonton Oilers broke away in the third period to defeat the Vancouver Canucks 7-3 at Rogers Arena on Saturday night. Connor McDavid recorded a goal and two assists, while Mattias Janmark collected three assists to lead an offensive surge that featured four goals in a span of less than five minutes during the final frame.
Leon Draisaitl gave Edmonton an early lead at 2:48 of the first period with a wrist shot off passes from Zach Hyman and McDavid. The Oilers extended the advantage early in the second period when Corey Perry and Viktor Arvidsson scored 1:13 apart. Vancouver responded immediately, as Elias Pettersson deflected in a shot at 5:01 and Filip Hronek snapped in his first goal of the season at 7:00 to trim Edmonton's lead to 3-2.
Edmonton seized full control early in the third period. Connor Brown started the run at 6:10, followed by a power-play wrist shot from McDavid at 7:16. Brett Kulak scored just 52 seconds later at 8:08, and Brown added his second of the night at 11:05 to push the lead to 7-2. Pius Suter concluded the scoring for Vancouver with a power-play goal at 19:06.
Stuart Skinner earned the victory for Edmonton, stopping 17 of the 20 shots he faced. Vancouver starter Kevin Lankinen took the loss after allowing seven goals on 27 shots before Arturs Silovs stopped all four shots he saw in relief. The Oilers finished 1-for-3 on the power play, while the Canucks converted one of their two opportunities with the man advantage.
With the win, Edmonton leveled its regular-season record at 7-7-1. Vancouver fell to 7-3-3 following the defeat, which gave the Oilers the win in the first meeting between the teams this season.
