Anthony Stolarz stopped 29 shots for a shutout as the Toronto Maple Leafs defeated the Boston Bruins 4-0 at Scotiabank Arena on Tuesday. Toronto converted on three power-play opportunities to break the game open across the final two periods.
Following a scoreless opening frame, Morgan Rielly put Toronto on the board with a power-play wrist shot at 8:44 of the second period, assisted by Mitch Marner and Matthew Knies. Just 74 seconds later, William Nylander doubled the lead on another power play, beating Jeremy Swayman with a wrist shot off helpers from Marner and Rielly.
The Maple Leafs added to their advantage late in the third period with their third power-play tally of the night. Knies deflected in a pass from Nylander and Rielly at 14:13. Steven Lorentz finished the scoring at 15:58, sending a wrist shot into an empty net after an assist from Chris Tanev.
Special teams shaped the outcome as Toronto finished 3-for-7 on the man advantage while Boston went 0-for-6. Stolarz turned aside all 29 shots to earn the victory, while Swayman took the loss for the Bruins after stopping 23 of 26 shots.
Rielly finished the game with three points on one goal and two assists, while Marner recorded two assists. The victory moved the Maple Leafs to 7-5-2 on the season and leveled the regular-season series against Boston at one win apiece. The Bruins dropped to 6-7-1.
