Jared Spurgeon broke a 33-game stretch without a goal by netting two of Minnesota's three goals in the second period, leading them to a 3-2 win against the Chicago Blackhawks on Friday.
Marco Rossi also found the net for Minnesota, and Marc-Andre Fleury made 20 saves, boosting his record to 5-0-1. The Wild have now won 13 consecutive games against the Blackhawks, a streak that started in February 2020.
Spurgeon's first goal put Minnesota ahead 3-2 late in the second period. This marked his first goal since April 2023 and was the eighth time he has scored multiple goals in a game. Ryan Donato scored twice for the Blackhawks, who are tied for the lowest points in the NHL.
Minnesota leads the league in goals-against average and save percentage, conceding two or fewer goals in 15 of their 23 games.
Rossi and Spurgeon scored 17 seconds apart in the second period, leveling the score at 2-2. Rossi capped off a passing sequence involving Kirill Kaprizov and Marcus Johansson, and Spurgeon's shot was redirected off a defender's skate.
Kaprizov celebrated his 300th career game, with totals of 174 goals and 192 assists. Among active players, only Sidney Crosby, Connor McDavid, Alex Ovechkin, and Evgeni Malkin have accumulated more points in their first 300 games. In terms of goals, only Ovechkin and Auston Matthews have more.
The Blackhawks are set to host Columbus on Sunday, while Minnesota will play Nashville at home on Saturday.
