Mitch Marner scored an unassisted goal 40 seconds into overtime to lift the Toronto Maple Leafs to a 4-3 victory over the Edmonton Oilers on Saturday at Scotiabank Arena.
The Oilers took an early lead when Adam Henrique scored on a snap shot at 1:42 of the first period, assisted by Mattias Janmark and Connor Brown. Toronto tied the game two minutes later as Bobby McMann scored on a backhand shot at 3:53, set up by John Tavares and Marner. Edmonton regained the lead early in the second period on a power-play wrist shot from Connor McDavid, assisted by Zach Hyman and Leon Draisaitl at 1:51.
Toronto surged ahead with two quick goals in the third period. Matthew Knies tied the game 2-2 with an unassisted wrist shot at 13:08, and McMann notched his second goal of the night just 59 seconds later off a feed from Oliver Ekman-Larsson. Edmonton answered back with 1:29 remaining in regulation when Draisaitl scored on a wrist shot assisted by Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and McDavid. That sent the game into overtime, where Marner secured the win for Toronto with a wrist shot.
Anthony Stolarz earned the win for Toronto by stopping 27 of 30 shots, while the Maple Leafs defense blocked 27 shots. Edmonton goaltender Stuart Skinner stopped 18 of 22 shots in the overtime loss. The Oilers scored on one of their two power-play opportunities, while Toronto went 0-for-4 on the man advantage.
With the victory, Toronto improved to 11-6-2 and extended its winning streak to two games. Edmonton moved to 9-7-2 on the season, earning a point after winning its previous three games.
