The Carolina Hurricanes secured the Stanley Cup title with a 3-0 victory over the Vegas Golden Knights in Game 6 of the Stanley Cup Final at T-Mobile Arena on Sunday. Goaltender Brandon Bussi stopped all 22 shots he faced to earn the shutout and seal the series.
Carolina struck early in the opening period to grab the lead. Taylor Hall scored his seventh goal of the postseason with a wrist shot at 3:47, assisted by Jaccob Slavin and Jackson Blake. That opening goal stood as the lone tally through the rest of the first frame as the Hurricanes established defensive control.
Blake expanded Carolina's lead late in the second period. After receiving a pass from Logan Stankoven, Blake scored on a snap shot at 13:31 for his seventh goal of the playoffs. With Vegas pulling their goaltender late in regulation, Nikolaj Ehlers added an unassisted empty-net goal on a snap shot with 1:08 remaining to conclude the scoring.
Bussi earned the win by turning aside all 22 shots sent his way, while Vegas netminder Carter Hart stopped 20 of 22 shots in the loss. Neither team converted with the man advantage, as both clubs finished 0 for 3 on the power play while serving six penalty minutes apiece.
With the Game 6 victory, the Hurricanes won the best-of-seven series 4-2 to claim the championship after finishing the regular season with a 53-22-7 record. The Golden Knights, who went 39-26-17 during the regular campaign and had won both head-to-head regular-season meetings, saw their postseason run conclude with the loss.
