Leon Draisaitl broke a late tie with less than three minutes remaining in regulation to lift the Edmonton Oilers to a 3-1 victory over the Seattle Kraken at Rogers Place on Saturday.
Edmonton struck early in the contest when Owen Michaels scored his second goal of the season at 2:51 of the first period. Alex Formenton picked up the lone assist on Michaels' wrist shot. The Kraken answered back during the second period. Bobby McMann scored his first goal of the season on a wrist shot at 9:06 during a power play, converting passes from Jordan Eberle and Chandler Stephenson to level the score at 1-1.
The 1-1 deadlock held until late in the third period. Draisaitl snapped home his third goal of the season at 17:33, assisted by Connor McDavid and Ryan Shea, to restore Edmonton's lead. McDavid later sealed the outcome at 18:55 by scoring an empty-net goal off an assist from Vasily Podkolzin.
Devon Levi turned aside 19 of the 20 shots he faced to earn the victory in net for the Oilers. Seattle goaltender Philipp Grubauer stopped 23 of 25 shots in the loss. The Kraken went 1-for-2 on the power play, while Edmonton went 0-for-3 with the man advantage.
With the win, the Oilers improved their regular-season record to 2-0-1 and extended their winning streak to two straight games. The Kraken dropped to 1-1-0 on the season with the loss.
Both teams resume regular-season action on Tuesday, October 20. The Oilers remain home to host the Minnesota Wild, while the Kraken return home to host the Detroit Red Wings.
