The Edmonton Oilers defeated the Vegas Golden Knights 5-1 on Wednesday at Rogers Place, pulling away with three unanswered goals across the first two periods.
Cody Ceci opened the scoring 9:37 into the first period with a snap shot assisted by Ryan McLeod and Darnell Nurse. Edmonton extended the lead in the second period when Mattias Ekholm scored on a slap shot at 5:38, followed by Zach Hyman's 53rd goal of the season on a wrist shot at 8:06 to make it 3-0.
Leon Draisaitl pushed the Oilers lead to four on a power-play slap shot at 6:50 of the third period. Vegas answered just a minute later while still shorthanded, as Keegan Kolesar beat Stuart Skinner with a snap shot off feeds from Noah Hanifin and William Karlsson. Dylan Holloway capped the scoring at 9:56 of the third, scoring an unassisted wrap-around goal to seal the win.
Skinner stopped 17 of 18 shots to earn the victory for Edmonton. At the other end, Adin Hill made 20 saves on 25 shots for Vegas. The Oilers converted on one of their three power-play opportunities and did not take a single penalty, leaving the Golden Knights without a power play all night.
The victory extended Edmonton's winning streak to three games and improved its record to 48-24-5. With the loss, Vegas dropped to 42-28-8 and remained winless in three straight contests. The result gave the Oilers two wins in three regular-season meetings against the Golden Knights.
