Jordan Kyrou scored 11 seconds into overtime on the power play to lift the Washington Capitals to a 3-2 preseason victory over the Boston Bruins on Friday at Capital One Arena.
The Capitals built an early advantage through their power-play unit. Dylan Strome opened the scoring at 18:04 of the first period with a wrist shot set up by Tom Wilson and Pierre-Luc Dubois. Wilson then pushed the lead to 2-0 early in the second period, beating Jeremy Swayman on a backhand shot at 1:39 with assists from Dubois and Strome.
Boston answered early in the third period with two quick tallies to force overtime. Morgan Geekie beat Logan Thompson with a snap shot at 3:40, assisted by Pavel Zacha and Connor Clifton. Just over two minutes later, David Pastrnak scored on the power play at 5:56, using helpers from JJ Peterka and Zacha to level the contest at 2-2 before Kyrou snapped home the winner off a feed from Jakob Chychrun in extra time.
Washington converted on all three of its power-play chances and outshot Boston 35-22. Thompson earned the win in net with 20 saves on 22 shots, while Swayman stopped 32 of 35 shots in the overtime loss as the Bruins converted one of three power plays.
The Bruins will visit the Dallas Stars on Tuesday, October 20, while the Capitals will host the Los Angeles Kings on the same evening.
