Brad Marchand and Morgan Geekie each scored two goals to lead the Boston Bruins to a 4-2 victory over the Chicago Blackhawks on Wednesday night at United Center.
Chicago opened the scoring 1:23 into the first period when Alex Vlasic scored his first goal of the season on a wrist shot, assisted by Nick Foligno and Connor Murphy. Boston responded at 12:17 of the period as Geekie beat Petr Mrazek with a wrist shot off assists from Justin Brazeau and Jordan Oesterle to tie the contest 1-1.
The Bruins seized control early in the second period with two goals from Marchand in a span of 2:05. Marchand scored on a snap shot at 2:58 with assists from David Pastrnak and Mason Lohrei, then added a backhand goal at 5:03 assisted by Pastrnak and Oesterle. Jason Dickinson pulled the Blackhawks within one at 18:23 of the second period with a wrist shot set up by Ilya Mikheyev and Murphy, but Geekie restored Boston's two-goal cushion at 5:02 of the third period with his second wrist-shot goal of the night, assisted by Brazeau and Lohrei.
Jeremy Swayman earned the win in net for Boston, stopping 20 of 22 shots. Mrazek took the loss for Chicago after turning aside 23 of 27 shots. Neither team converted on the power play, with the Bruins going 0 for 5 with the man advantage and the Blackhawks finishing 0 for 2.
The victory pushed Boston to a 14-11-3 record and extended their winning streak to three games. Chicago dropped to 8-16-2 on the season, remaining winless in their last four games.
